Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with national standard methods
Remarks:
Study under GLP and according to the latest protocols.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: ISO 4311
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The break point of a surface tension vs. log (concentration) plot was dertermined.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
other: critical micelle concentration
Key result
Water solubility:
ca. 0.39 g/L
Temp.:
25 °C
Remarks on result:
other: The surface tension plot shows a slope at 0.39 g/L.
Conclusions:
The critical micelle concentration of the substance corresponds to 0.39 g/L (390 mg/L) at 25°C. This value is taken as its water solubilty.
Executive summary:

The critical micelles concentration (cmc) of the test substance 'didecyldimethylammonium chloride' was measured according to ISO Guideline 4311. The break point of a surface tension vs. log (concentration) plot was dertermined. The critical micelle concentration of the substance corresponds to 0.39 g/L (390 mg/L) at 25°C. This value is taken as its water solubilty.

Type of method:
other: critical micelle concentration
Key result
Water solubility:
ca. 0.65 g/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
ca. 7
Conclusions:
The critical micelle concentration of the substance corresponds to 0.65 g/L (650 mg/L) at 20°C. This value is taken as its water solubilty.
Executive summary:

The critical micelles concentration (cmc) of didecyldimethylammonium chloride was measured according to OECD Guideline 115 and EU Method A.5. The cmc was found to correspond to 0.65 g/L (650 mg/L) at 20°C.

Description of key information

The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the test substance was measured according to OECD Guideline 115, EU Method A.5 and ISO Method 4311 (Schulze, 2010 and Miller, 2010).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
0.65 g/L
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

- The CMC was determined to range from 0.390 to 0.650 g/L at 20-25°C.

- Data presented in the DDAC assessment report for Product Type 8 conducted under Directive 98/8/EC (evaluating Competent Authority: Italy, June 2015, attached in Section 13 of the IUCLID dataset) reported two water solubility studies with values ranging from 500 g/L (US ISC) to 645 g/L (EQC) at 20°C.

In line with the current best practices recommended in ECHA R.7a guidance for surface active substances and as a conservative approach, the higher CMC value of 0.65 g/L has been considered further for hazard/risk assessment.
