Results:

- Two tests were carried out and in both tests, an endothermal evaporation of the isopropanol content (1.6%) was observed at approximately 90 °C. The recorded melting peaks were not sharp enough to calculate an exact melting temperature out of the single results of the two tests. Therefore a melting range was defined beginning at the measured onset-temperatures up to the defined peak-temperatures.

Conclusions:
Under the test conditions, the melting point of the test substance ranged from 188 - 205°C.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the melting of the test substance 'didecyldimethylammonium chloride' (DDAC) according to the protocols of OECD 102 and EU method A.1. The melting point was determined using the DSC method at 1013 hPa. The recorded melting peaks were not sharp enough to calculate an exact melting temperature out of the single results of the two tests. Therefore, a melting range was defined beginning at the measured onset-temperatures up to the defined peak-temperatures. Further, increase in the temperature i.e., >280°C led to thermal decomposition of the test substance. Under the test conditions, the melting point of the test substance ranged from 188 - 205°C.

Description of key information

The melting point was determined in two separate studies according to OECD Guideline 102 and EU Method A.1 using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) (Möller, 2011 and Schneider, 2000).

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Melting / freezing point at 101 325 Pa:
94 °C

Additional information

- Möller, 2011: melting point range of 94 - 100°C.

- Schneider, 2000: melting point range of 188 - 205°C.

As a conservative approach, the lower melting point has been considered further for hazard/risk assessment.
