Administrative data
- Endpoint:
- eye irritation: in vivo
- Type of information:
- experimental study
- Adequacy of study:
- supporting study
- Reliability:
- 3 (not reliable)
- Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
- other: Non-GLP near-guideline study, available as unpublished report, minor restrictions in design and reporting but the assessment is not possible since the volatilisation is expected to occur rapidly.

- Irritant / corrosive response data:
- There were no effects on the cornea and on the iris. On the conjunctiva , minimal swelling at 1h and slight transient discharge observed in unwashed (1h-1d) as well as in washed eye (1d). The substance produced pratically no ocular effect in either the unwashed and the washed rabbit's eye. This could be due to the fact that the compound is so low boiling (-9°C) that it did not stay in the eye (compound boiled out of eye immediately).
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- not irritating
- Remarks:
- Migrated information Criteria used for interpretation of results: EU
- Conclusions:
- The substance is practically not irritating to the eyes of rabbits.
- Executive summary:
The instillation of 0.1 ml of liquified substance into rabbit eye led to minimal swelling of conjunctiva at 1h and slight transient discharge. There were no effects on the cornea and on the iris. However, as the compound has boiled out of the eye immediately, the relevance of this data to human risk assessment is very limited.
