Description of key information
Appearance:
Based on available data from various reliable handbooks, the substance 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was observed as lower adducts (n<15) yellow to almost colorless liquids; higher adduct (n>20) pale-yellow to off-white pastes or waxes in appearance.
Freezing point:
Based on available data from various reliable handbooks, the freezing point of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was determined to be -3.33 degree C
Boiling point:
Based on available data from authoritative database, the boiling point of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was determined to be 100 degree C.
Density:
Based on available data from different reliable handbooks, the density of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was determined to be 1.06 g/cm3 at 25 degree C.
Particle size distribution:
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is marketed or used in a non solid or granular form
The chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated is a liquid and hence it is not possible to estimate the particle size distribution of the chemical. Hence this end point was considered for waiver.
Vapour pressure:
Modified Grain method (Mean of Antoine and Modified Grain methods) was used to estimate the vapour pressure of the chemical4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylatedusing MPBPVP v1.43 of EPI SUITE.
The estimated vapour pressure of the chemical4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylatedat 25deg C was8.091334e-10 Pas.
Partition coefficient
Based on the available data from authoritative database, the octanol water partition coefficient (log Kow) of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated (CAS no. 26027-38-3) estimated is 4.48.
Water solubility:
Based on available data from authoritative database, the water solubility of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was determined to be >1000 mg/L.
Available value indicates that the chemical4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylatedis soluble in water
Surface tension:
Based on available data from peer reviewed journal, the surface tension of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was determined to be 33 dynes/cm or mN/m at 25oC
Flash point:
Based on available data from various reliable handbooks, the flash point of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was determined to be in the range of 280 degree C to 290 degree C.
Autoflammability:
The study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid non flammable in air, e.g. no flash point up to 200°C
Flammability:
4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated does not indicate any ignition when the flame of bunsen burner having temperature of approximately 950°C is brought in contact with it. Thus it can be concluded that 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated is not flammable at high temperature. However since such high temperatures are not found under normal circumstances of transportation and use, thus 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was considered non-flammable for chemical safety assessment.
Explosiveness;
The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.
Oxidising properties:
The study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.
Viscosity:
Based on available data from various reliable handbooks, the viscosity of chemical 4-Nonylphenol, ethoxylated was determined to be in the range of 175 centi Poise to 250 centi-Poise at 25 degree C.
