300 people gather in Helsinki for last minute advice ahead of the final registration deadline for chemicals
ECHA will host over 300 participants from industry, academia and authorities from all over the world for its REACH 2018 Stakeholders’ Day on 31 January. The event marks the last push for companies to meet their obligations by the 31 May registration deadline.
Companies facing exceptional situations that are likely to prevent them from registering on time should inform ECHA ahead of the deadline of 31 May 2018.
New strategy promotes substitution to safer chemicals in the EU
ECHA’s substitution strategy aims to encourage the replacement of harmful chemicals by boosting the availability and adoption of safer alternatives and technologies. It highlights networking, capacity building, and improving access to data, funding and technical support as key areas for action.
The regulatory and practical advice for substance identification has been updated with text about the substance identity profile (SIP). Translations will be available in the coming week. See also the SIP Q&As, published in November 2017. The SIP specifies the boundaries of the substance that the registrants agree to cover with the data they submit jointly.
Committees’ opinions on one application for authorisation available
The consolidated opinions of the Committees for Risk Assessment and Socio-economic Analysis for two uses of sodium chromate (EC 231-889-5) and two uses of potassium chromate (EC 232-140-5) by Saes Getters S.p.A are available on our website.
One new substance evaluation conclusion document is now available on ECHA’s website for phenol, dodecyl-, sulfurized, calcium salts (EC 272-486-4; CAS 68855-45-8), added to the CoRAP list in 2016 and evaluated by France.
AISE use map updated and now available also in Chesar format
The International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products (AISE) has now published an updated version of its use map, together with the corresponding Chesar file. The Chesar use map package contains the use description and the input elements for exposure assessment of workers (SWEDs), consumers (SCEDs) and for the release to the environment (SpERCs). Registrants can download the files directly from ECHA's Use maps library web page.
Appeal against a testing proposal decision dismissed
ECHA’s Board of Appeal has dismissed an appeal by a company which had proposed fulfilling certain information requirements by way of a read-across adaptation using the results of pending tests on another substance.
