Working on the world’s broadest restriction of intentional uses of microplastics
ECHA’s proposal to restrict intentionally-added microplastics is the most comprehensive restriction initiative in the world for reducing emissions from intentional uses of microplastics. Following an extensive consultation in 2019, the Agency has updated its proposal while remaining independent and following a transparent and evidence-based scientific approach.

Sharing of information on exports of harmful chemicals continues to grow
Notifications from EU companies to export certain hazardous chemicals outside the Union have continued to steadily rise over the last three years. More than 10 000 notifications were processed in 2019 – an increase of around 35 % compared to 2016. With the increased workload, adequate resourcing is a necessity for future PIC work.

Submission portal updated
With the updated ECHA submission portal, you can submit a simplified SCIP notification. This reduces your workload if you supply the same product that an upstream supplier has already notified to the database. As a distributor, you can link your SCIP notification to those of your suppliers if they supply the same product as you. You can now also notify a complex object by referring to information already submitted to the database. The submission portal’s search and export features have also been improved.

System-to-system update
Additional enhancements to the system-to-system service give you access to the SCIP number, which you can use to refer to information already in the database. The system-to-system service also supports the submission of simplified SCIP notifications, allowing you to link to your upstream suppliers’ notifications for the same product.

Manual: tools to reuse SCIP data submitted to ECHA
The document helps you to refer to data that other duty holders have already submitted to ECHA. This will facilitate the submission of SCIP notifications to ECHA, while keeping the information consistent and avoiding multiple reporting of the same data.
