Study finds knowledge gaps in risk assessment of nano pigments

A new study, commissioned by the European Union Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON), found gaps in the current knowledge on the hazard and risk assessment of nano-sized pigments. The study identified 81 nano-sized pigments currently used in the EU market.

Testing proposals

ECHA has launched 10 new public consultations on testing proposals. The deadline to comment these is 22 October 2018.

There are currently 26 public consultations open on testing proposals.

Committees’ opinions on applications for authorisation

The consolidated opinions of the Committees for Risk Assessment and Socio-economic Analysis are now available on our website for:
  • one use of bis(2-methoxyethyl) ether (EC 203-924-4; CAS 111-96-6) by N.V. Ajinomoto OmniChem S.A.; and
  • two uses of pentazinc chromate octahydroxide (EC 256-418-0; CAS 49663-84-5) by Indestructible Paint Ltd.

The Poison Centres website has been revamped with  support pages for industry on how to prepare and submit information on hazardous mixtures to appointed bodies in a harmonised way.

New proposals and intentions to harmonise classification and labelling

A new proposal to harmonise the classification and labelling has been submitted for 4,4'-isopropylidenediphenol (EC 201-245-8, CAS 80-05-7).

The intention for a proposal to harmonise the classification and labelling of dinotefuran (ISO); 1-methyl-2-nitro-3-(tetrahydro-3-furylmethyl)guanidine (EC -, CAS 165252-70-0) has been withdrawn.

A revised emission scenario document for rodenticides (product-type 14) is now available.

Emission scenarios provide useful basis for the exposure assessment of biocidal products, helping you to estimate the release of a substance from the product to the environment.

REACH-IT maintenance breaks

There will be two longer-than-usual maintenance breaks for REACH-IT in the coming weeks. These breaks are to prepare for the launch of a IUCLID 6 upgrade scheduled for late October.

REACH-IT will be closed:
  • from Friday 28 September 2018 at 12:00 (GMT+3) until Monday 1 October 2018 at 10:00; and
  • from Friday 5 October 2018 at 20:00 (GMT+3) until Monday 8 October 2018 at 10:00.
