Q&As on the first phases of REACH registration now in your language
Around 100 questions and answers relevant to the first three phases of the REACH 2018 registration roadmap are now available in 23 EU languages. You can search for the relevant question and answer in your language by changing the language in the upper right corner menu on our website.

New Commission requests to ECHA related to restrictions
The European Commission has requested ECHA to evaluate certain elements of the existing Annex XVII restrictions on polycyclic-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in rubber or plastic components of articles (entry 50) and lead in jewellery (entry 63) to support the Commission in their future reviews of these entries.
In addition, the Commission have requested ECHA to develop an Annex XV restriction dossier for the uses of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5) in leave on cosmetic products and in other consumer products not covered by the UK’s restriction proposal submitted on 17 April 2015.

New intentions to harmonise classification and labelling
Two new intentions have been received to harmonise the classification and labelling of the substances:
- azoxystrobin (ISO); methyl (2E)-2-(2-{[6-(2-cyanophenoxy)pyrimidin-4-yl]oxy}phenyl)-3-methoxyacrylate (CAS 131860-33-8), and
- ammonium bromide (EC 235-183-8; CAS 12124-97-9).

New intention to identify a substance of very high concern
ECHA plans to submit a dossier on the identification of ethylenediamine as a substance of very high concern (SVHC). The expected submission date is 7 August 2017.

New version 2.3 of the ESCom catalogue of standard phrases published
The catalogue of standard phrases for exposure scenarios has been updated. The ESCom project aims to provide standard phrases on the safe use of chemicals in the extended safety data sheet in a consistent and harmonised way throughout the supply chain.

Webinar: How are substances screened and shortlisted?
14 February 2017, 11:00-13:00 Helsinki time
In late January every year, a number of substances are marked for manual screening by Member States. This webinar explains the screening process, its timelines, and the criteria for shortlisting. It also explains how registrants can influence the manual screening process by updating their dossiers and how they can obtain more information on common screening. Registrants will also learn how to react to the informative letters sent by ECHA to all registrants of shortlisted substances.

REACH 2018 SME workshop – road to successful registration
9-10 March 2017 | Vienna, Austria
A practical REACH 2018 workshop for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) will be held in Vienna in March. It features presentations on key registration topics and one-to-one sessions, where you can discuss your specific situation with experts from ECHA and national helpdesks.
By the end of the workshop, registrants will be able to submit their registration dossier and downstream users will have a better understanding of what is important for them in relation to the last registration deadline. Participation is free of charge.
The workshop is organised by ECHA and the European Association of Craft, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (UEAPME).

Book your seat for this two-day event focused on the REACH 2018 deadline. Bring your IT skills up-to-speed on 4 April with training on REACH-IT, IUCLID, Chesar and QSAR Toolbox. If you are new to REACH, you can take part in our workshop ‘From zero to registration’ and, as an SME, in a workshop on the soon available cloud service. On 5 April, the plenary sessions will focus on three topics: the road to REACH 2018, case studies for successful registration and managing risks in the supply chain.

Public consultation on harmonised classification and labelling
ECHA is looking for comments on the harmonised classification and labelling proposals for:
- pyridate (ISO); O-(6-chloro-3-phenylpyridazin-4-yl) S-octyl thiocarbonate (EC 259-686-7; CAS 55512-33-9), which is a herbicide mainly used in agriculture. It has an existing harmonised classification and labelling in Annex VI to CLP. Comments are invited on the specific target organ toxicity – single and repeated exposure, and aquatic acute and chronic toxicity hazard classess.
- cobalt (EC 231-158-0; CAS 7440-48-4), which is a metal used as an intermediate for the production of other chemicals (e.g. pigments) and alloys. It is also used in articles intended for machinery and mechanical appliances as well as electrical/electronic products (e.g. computers, cameras, lamps, refrigerators, and washing machines), batteries and accumulators. At extremely low doses, cobalt is considered an essential element present in enzymes and as a constituent of cobalamin, also known as vitamin B12. It has an existing harmonised classification and labelling in Annex VI to CLP as a respiratory and skin sensitiser and for its chronic aquatic toxicity. Comments are invited on the germ cell mutagenicity, carcinogenicity and reproductive toxicity hazard classess.
